[ Talk about a reminder of work emails. It takes Will a minute to remember he's in Deerington and not back in Wolf Trap, checking his work laptop from home. ]
it's one that knows fern and works with FEAR, yes
i'm not the only person you can ask about them, though. there's a lot of us there
[Martin has work email etiquette down to an art at this point.]
I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. I was actually trying to find out who ran FEAR, but Fern didn't know. If there's someone better to speak with, I'm happy to contact them if you have a username? Thank you.
[ Wow okay, Will knows he was trying to shuttle this conversation away from himself before it even started, but he's actually surprised to be told he wasn't the end goal here either. ]
i do know, yeah. there's two. bucky and kady. i can find their usernames in a minute
i'm assuming you're new. usually it's people who work in law enforcement and are new that start researching FEAR like it's actually a singular organization and not just a lot of people being given access to weapons and lab space
[It takes a little longer for the return message as Martin decides how he wants to phrase things. Fern had indicated that it was a rather... loose structure.]
Yes. I've only just arrived this week with someone else from my own world. Fern mentioned that FEAR had been designed to help others, but he hadn't been called on to do anything, yet. So, I was hoping to learn a bit more about it. The man who arrived with me is very driven and detail-oriented when it comes to finding out information. I'm just trying to help him out while he pursues a few other leads.
That's not to say we're part of law enforcement. We were archivists at the Magnus Institute in London in our own world.
[The phrasing is very specifically designed to be vague. It could be read as just a recent employment change from home to here. It's much more than that.]
Happy to pose my questions to the right people, though. I really appreciate the assistance you're providing now. :)
you came at the exact same time? that's...helpful [ And rare, as implied by Will's surprise. ]
archivists. feel like bringing your work to hell with you, here?
there's a few people who have compiled some of the background on this place. they're not all in FEAR. you can find most of it in the network if you look. not everyone's looking for the same type of answers, but this world was built by something and it's pretty clear whatever built it is what's keeping us here, whether it's on accident or on purpose.
yeah. here's a list of the first and second in command's usernames, and people i've seen talk about things that happened earlier than when i got here. [ Will provides username data for Bucky Barnes, Kady Orloff-Diaz, Chloe Decker, Peter Parker, and Shiro. ]
not everyone's interested in unraveling the people behind us being here. feel free to compile what you find and share it on the network or in documents at FEAR. or are you just hoping to absorb research from FEAR, not join it?
I don't know that I'll join it. I'd want to be pulling my weight, and there are a lot of things I need to learn and start preparing for. I did actually speak with Shiro already. He gave me the document he and Peter prepared. That and a lot of other people on the network have given me some ideas for how to stock up and what skills I might need.
Jon might want to get involed, though. I'll let him handle that side of things.
[Divide and conquer! And Martin... doesn't trust Jon to really pick up the basic survival skills they're going to need or have the patience or presence of mind to go through shopping and organizing supplies when there are eldritch mysteries for him to sniff out.]
Again, I really appreciate your time. Have a wonderful day!
[ Will's not entirely sure someone has ever made it through an entire exchange with him and ended it with a well-wish as sincere as 'have a wonderful day'. He's almost not sure how to take it seriously. ]
i can guarantee you you're taking it more seriously than most of the people whose names are listed as members inside the doors. but i'm not going to beg anyone to join what's effectively a militia filled with researchers.
so jon's your coworker? [ Will's just. making mental note so if he gets another sudden text, he'll have more idea as to who it's from.
And...look. Will has manners sometimes, watch: ] yeah, you too
[It would be kind of rude to leave the question hanging.]
That's right. Jonathan Sims. He can be pretty intense, and I don't want to trouble you, so I probably won't give him your name. You might see him on the network, though. Or if he joins FEAR. Please let me know if he ever bothers you. I can have a word with him about it.
[ Things that are instinctive for Will: being reflexively rude. Things that are less instinctive: people not being rude back at him. It catches him very much off guard. Huh. ...Okay.

sounds a little more like you're talking about an attack dog than a coworker.

[Um... that's kind of really direct. How to... spin this.]
No, nothing like that. He just gets really nosy sometimes. It's good for research, not really so much for being friendly.

i'll keep an eye out for someone nosier than you, then. [ Will please stop being rude just for One Text ]
